Top 2021 Travel Destinations

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

It’s no secret that many of us are dreaming about our next vacation. For most of us, 2020 meant the delay or cancellation of their long-awaited vacation. After the stressful and challenging year that’s now in our rearview mirror, I think we’re all in need of a change of scenery.

Based on trips that are already booked and buzz from the travel industry, here are my thoughts on this year’s must-visit destinations. If you are not ready to travel yet, these destinations will surely give you inspiration as you prepare beyond COVID.

CLOSE TO HOME TRAVEL

Austin, Texas

In general, long weekend trips to U.S. destinations are among the top trends for 2021 travel plans. Austin, Texas is an ideal location for a long weekend! My very first group trip was supposed to be to this unique city – that was before COVID-19 became a part of everyone’s vocabulary. With a thriving music scene, must-try barbeque, and even luxury accommodations, you’ll find everything you’ve been looking for and more in a trip to the Lonestar State.

Acadia National Park, Maine

National parks made the headlines in 2020 as great destinations that offer social distancing. Maine’s Acadia National Park is always a favorite, particularly amongst hikers and anyone looking for an escape from the ordinary. With a gorgeous Atlantic coastline and over 150 miles of hiking trails, this destination is a nature-lover’s paradise.

California’s Wine Country

Michelin-starred restaurants, boutique hotels, and rolling landscapes: California’s wine country is a must-visit for those looking for a taste of the good life. Whether you are planning a girls’ trip, a romantic honeymoon, or a long weekend getaway, this region of the Golden State is always a favorite.

WARM WEATHER DESTINATIONS

Bermuda

Known for its clear blue waters and sherbet-colored buildings, Bermuda is a vibrant paradise. This often-overlooked island destination is an ideal alternative to the Caribbean. With the addition of the St. Regis Bermuda Resort in the town of St. George’s, luxury options are at your fingertips!

Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

Say “Hola” to a Mexican vacation! Since reopening to travelers in the summer, Mexico has continued to provide a safe and relaxing experience. While there are many destinations and resorts to experience, I am partial to Riviera Nayarit for 2021. This sunny destination is located on the Pacific coast and is near archaeological sites that are a must-see for any history buff! With a wide range of resorts, you can definitely find one that fits your vacation budget and style.

BUCKET LIST TRIPS

Iceland

Whether you are looking to experience the Northern Lights, hike some of the world’s most beautiful trails, or explore the rich history of this literary-loving culture, Iceland is waiting for you. Travel restrictions are still in place as of publication of this post, but as the vaccine rolls out, I am hopeful that travel to Iceland will resume this year.

Greece

From the fresh feta cheese to the famous sites of antiquity, Greece has something for every traveler. Explore the increasingly accessible Acropolis in Athens or spend your time relaxing by the Mediterranean on one of the colorful Greek Isles! Like Iceland, I look forward to lifted travel restrictions so that we can return to this European masterpiece.
